Bacon Wrapped Crackers and Essential Oils

Last week I hosted a doTERRA “Makeover Your Medicine Cabinet” class.  I love those classes; I always learn so much!  Since I was hosting, I had to provide some yummy treats and drinks, of course!  I decided I would also experiment with adding some of the oils to the recipes.  Our teacher, Sara Derek, over at Oils for Life with Sara, asked me to share her favorite recipe, the bacon wrapped crackers with rosemary and oregano essential oils.  So, here it is!

This is not an original recipe.  I first had these at a Christmas party about five years ago and wanted to eat the whole tray.  I went home and Googled “bacon wrapped crackers” and found that one of my favorite blogs, The Pioneer Woman, by Ree Drummond, had the recipe.  Here is her original post.

These are my “go to” appetizer when I need to bring a treat and don’t know what to make.  They’re super easy and everyone gobbles them up (c’mon, it’s bacon!).  They consist, essentially of a teaspoon of parmesan cheese on a cracker that is wrapped with a strip of bacon and then cooked.  That’s what I made for the class.  Once they were done baking I brushed them with olive oil that I had added a few drops of oregano and rosemary essential oils to.  That put them Over. The. Top.

I’m sorry I don’t have any pictures…they went too fast!

I also make a sweet version of this tasty morsel.  Instead of a teaspoon of parm, use a teaspoon of brown sugar.  Oh my goodness! I don’t know which one I like more.  I didn’t make the brown sugar ones for the class but I would love to make them and try brushing them with the cinnamon essential oil (eek! I can’t wait to try this!).

In addition to the crackers, I also bought some dark chocolate shells.  I filled these with a Bavarian cream that I added Wild Orange EO to, then topped with some fresh blueberries and strawberries.  You don’t have to wonder…they were SO good.  At least I got to snap a couple of pictures of those before the class started.

I have loved using essential oils for the last few months and thought it was nice to experiment with cooking.  I already use the doTerra Slim and Sassy, as well as Lemon in my water.  I really like the addition of the Wild Orange to the cream filling in the chocolates.  I’m looking forward to more experiments as I get more oils.

Recipe:
1 package of club crackers
1 pound of regular sliced bacon – not thick cut (or more if you need to make lots—trust me, you’ll need to make lots)
Grated Parmesan Cheese (or substitute brown sugar)
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
2 drops doTERRA CPTG Rosemary Essential Oil*
1 drop doTERRA CPTG Oregano Essential Oil*

* If using brown sugar, try doTERRA CPTG Cinnamon Essential Oil

Lay crackers out on your work area.
Scoop about 1 teaspoon of parmesan on each cracker
Cut bacon strips in half.  Take each half-strip and wrap around a cheese topped cracker.
Place crackers on baking sheet that has a rack on it.
Bake at 250 degrees for about two hours.
Add essential oils to olive oil.  Brush with olive oil mixture and serve!
